Our Story

THE IDEA

Planted 15 years ago when I entered the wild, bewildering and wonderful world of motherhood was a small seed. As I journeyed along embracing everything motherhood and parenting had to offer, the seed was sprouting slowly in the background, capturing and absorbing special moments as food for growth. That seed grew into an idea of setting up a business that entwined together my 2 main passions & inspirations, my children and nature.

THE IMPORTANCE OF NATURE

Thinking back to my childhood, my happiest memories are made up of many experiences surrounded by nature. Being outside underneath the blue skies, stomping in puddles, kicking the crispy Autumn leaves in the air. I spent many happy days walking through fields and woodlands, not knowing the destination but enjoying the things that were discovered along the way. All my senses came alive in the surroundings which rooted the memories firmly in my mind.

Not only has nature played a big part in my childhood, it also now plays a big part in my children’s lives. They have the freedom to roam around gardens filled with rose bushes and listen to the bees buzzing around the flowers. They’ve camped out under the night sky to wake in the early morning to a sunrise and the dew rising slowly from the ground. Unbeknown to them they are learning and experiencing the smell, touch and feel of the natural surroundings around them and I’d like to think that one day, the memories they are making will be some of their happiest ones too. Encouraging my children to enjoy and respect the outdoors, fills me with comfort as l believe this to be an essential role as a parent.

OUR NAME

Badger & Burrow was an inspired idea from my favourite children’s book, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. Still now as an adult, l cannot walk along a river bank without wondering whether l will see Rat and Mole sailing by me in a little wooden boat on their way to meet with their good friend Badger. Even though the character of Badger in the story was of an older, wiser gentleman, young Badgers are playful, loyal, clumsy and very family orientated creatures, of which all of these characteristics l see in children. The plump, cuddly looking Badger is a true vision of nature and the wonders it has to offer. The burrow needs no explanation, a place of safety, comfort, warmth and love.

OUR MISSION

Encouraging children to embrace, explore and learn about the beautiful world around them, even in the simplest of ways brings me a comfort and happiness and that is what we aim to do for you and your little ones here at Badger & Burrow. Combining products that are essential for outdoor play, with a range of sustainable items to minimise our footprint on this unique planet we call home, we want you and your little badgers to embrace any opportunity to spend time exploring, learning and most importantly planting those memories.

THE ENVIRONMENT AND OUR ROLE TO PROTECT IT

We deeply believe that our footprint on our planet needs to be minimal and that is why we sell only products that we would have in our own house that are useful, bought with purpose and use little plastic, if none at all. In taking responsibility, with our "Recycle Me Scheme" and sourcing products from local businesses, we continually strive to lessen the impact we have on the environment. Educating parents and children in ways that they can also cut their carbon footprint, to protect the planet but still buy gifts, toys and homeware with style is at the heart of our business.

SUPPORTING OTHERS

Shopping with us not only makes our day but also supports the businesses that provide us with our amazing collection of products. We source most of our products from small businesses so each purchase you make at Badger & Burrow not only supports us in our dream but the amazing crafty and creative minds behind those businesses. All of which have the same ethos and are determined to minimize their carbon footprint just like us.

Let's get making those wonderful memories for all those that will grace this earth starting from now.

Big Smiles,
Hannah
